Adobe Creek Avulsion

The Sun River experienced flood events in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Adobe Creek is a tributary to the Sun River near the town of Fort Shaw. These flood events caused significant erosion and headcuts/avulsion from the river into the Adobe Creek channel. Montana Map Works was contracted to fly multiple drone flights capturing oblique and nadir imagery to help document the erosion processes over time. These data helped geomorphologists and river restoration engineers with understanding the dynamics of the area and changing conditions.
